No Pics...

just some things I don't want to forget.
1) A few weeks ago, Delilah was laying across my lap. I could simultaneously feel her heart beating and the new baby kicking. Perfection.

2) Delilah was sitting in my lap and we were reading a story when the baby started kicking her. Red whipped her head up at me and said, "what's that?" I asked her what she thought it was and she incredulously asked, "the baby in your tummy?" I said, "that's right" and she immediately started pushing on my belly and telling me to "Get it out! Push it out, Mommy!"...perhaps she will be my labor coach.

3) I dropped Delilah off at her Mother's Day Out program and they were all outside on the playground, so I took her there. I walked back to my car, got in, and realized that she was looking at me through the fence. I thought tears were coming, so I quickly rolled down my window, waved happily, and told her I would be back soon. She just stood there with a ball cocked on her hip, waved, smiled, pointed at the other kids & said "play with friends"...then threw the ball and happily skipped off after it. I think that might have been the exact moment my toddler became a little girl.

4) Delilah and I were upstairs calling for Runyon to come and get in her crate. I must have been yelling too much b/c at one point Delilah put her finger to her lips and said, "Shhh...she's coming Mommy. You gotta be patient".

5) The other day Delilah told me that the new baby should be named "Baby Delilah" and that her own name would be "Big Girl Delilah". :)

6) Red is OBSESSED with books. I hesitate to write that b/c I realize it sounds as asinine as the moms who gush about how much their kids love music...newsflash: ALL children love music and love books. But I really think Delilah has taken it to a new level and I've had several other moms and caregivers (like babysitters and Sunday school teachers) make unprompted comments like, "Delilah read A LOT of books today...does she always do that?" Yesterday we read 32 books and that's not even counting the books she just kind of flips through in the car. Oh, the car. Because Chris and I were becoming her own personal Sherpas when it came to loading books in the car, we had to institute a "you can only take as many books as you can carry by yourself" policy. We originally tried to institute a numerical limit of 3 books per car trip, but there was such rending of clothes & gnashing of teeth that we had to acquiesce. She frequently tries to take so many that she has to take breaks during the walk out to the car...she sets her pile down and says, "too heavy", but then picks them all back up and valiantly continues.

7) Delilah got her first freckles about a month ago. There are 3 across the bridge of her nose, one on her cheek, and 2 on her calf. They are the cutest things in the whole world.

8) All 3 of us slept together for the first time a couple months ago. I know that deciding if you are going to let your child sleep with you is supposed to be this big decision, but we never had to make it: any time we've taken Delilah in our bed, she has thought it was party time. Mommy and Daddy are simply too fun to lay quietly next to. But when we were at Chris's sister's house, Delilah climbed out of her pack & play in the middle of the night. I silently picked her up into our bed and she cuddled into me and fell asleep for the rest of the night. The episode has not been repeated, but I will always remember and cherish that sweet night with my whole family in one bed.

Oh, I love her so much it hurts. Even when she's throwing a tantrum and completely unloveable-she is my heart.
