18 Months (and some pumpkins)

Delilah had her 18 month check-up last week and, guess what?...she's perfect! :) Stats are:
Height: just under 32 inches (50-60th%)
Weight: 24 pounds, 12 ounces (50th)
Head: I never remember, but it's 80-90th%
And I will go ahead and plunge into the bragging arena: the Doctor said she was 'astonishingly verbal'. :) She can say between 45-50 words, and she learned two more in the doctor's office: 'trash', and 'touch'. My favorite thing about her being able to say so much is that we can actually have mini-conversations and I get to understand what she's thinking.
-
-Her absolute favorite thing to do these days is go "Outs, outs, outsiiiiide". She doesn't care if it's cold, hot, raining, sunny, cloudy- if she sees a door, she wants to go through it.
-She has a pretty fierce independent streak, which can be trying at times, but deep down I love that she already knows her own mind.
-She still makes herself giggle all the time.
-She likes going to sleep and will point to her bed when she's tired.
-She's obsessed with shoes and wants everyone to be wearing them all the time. I think she associates shoes with going outsiiiiide.
-Her 2nd favorite thing to do is draw and color. We went to a playgroup and there was an easel with crayons in the corner. She ignored all the other kids (and me) for over an hour while she drew.
-She's super polite. Says 'please' fairly often and says 'thank you' after you do just about anything for her. We didn't really work on this with her or anything, so I'm not sure why she's so compulsive about it--it's pretty darn cute.
-If you point to Chris and say "who's that?", she says 'dada'. If you point to me and say, 'who's that?', she says 'mama'. If you point to one of her friends and do it, she'll say their name (if she's able). But if you point to Delilah and say "who are you?", she says 'mama'. It melts my heart b/c I secretly think it means that she has the two of us fused as one in her mind.
-On average she needs to go to a new place about 3 times before she's really comfortable there.
-She's more excited to see Runyon in the mornings than me or Chris.
-She gives the best bear hugs in the entire world.

And because I think all posts are better with pictures, here's our trip to the local church pumpkin patch this weekend:

Sharing Daddy's Sonic Cherry Limeade (she soon stopped sharing and stole it from him. Unfortunately, one of her 50 words is 'mine')

Delilah briefly followed one of the older girls around. Here's Delilah checking to see if the older girl approves her pumpkin choice. :)

I think I found one, Mom!

Can I keep it?

Looking around
This pic makes me laugh b/c I have no idea why her hair is sticking straight up. It wasn't windy, and she wasn't falling...it's like the pumpkins shocked her.
There was also a bouncy house that Red loved.
It's hard to see, but Delilah decided to walk over and give Daddy a kiss through the screen. Too cute!
And here are the finished products. No stenciled work of art for Team Huntley...we go classic triangle-eyes and bucktooth-smile every time. Delilah's pumpkin is on the left. She covered it with a full sheet of stickers and then removed every single sticker. What can I say?...she's going through a minimalist phase.

Happy Halloween, everybody!

Handmade Fashion Fridays

I recently made a dress for Delilah (knitted the top, sewed the bottom) and a skirt for me. I'm super excited about my skirt b/c it fits perfectly and it's only the 2nd thing I've ever made for myself. Yippee!

Delilah's Dress:
I haven't taken pics of her in it yet, and I can't take any right now b/c she's napping. But she did wear the dress for part of our holiday photo shoot, so there are pics! :)

My skirt:
I love it!!! It's a brown/gold/hunter green tweed-perfect for fall!!

Delilah and Greyson Meet

What a fun, busy weekend! Delilah and I headed up to Dallas on Thursday to hang out with two of my best friends from college, Jenny & Jessica. Our little girls are all around the same age, so the 6 of us had a great time hanging out, and we were lucky enough to have The Rissmillers pop over for a visit, too. Since Chris wasn't with me, Jenny's husband watched Delilah so that the moms could have a night out. We were all dancers in high school/college so we went out to dinner and then saw Fame. Had such a fantastic time getting to catch up with my girls!!! (And, of course, I forgot my camera, so there are no pics)
-
On Saturday, we drove home, and my brother and his wife and son drove up to visit. Cannon & Amy are UT football fans, so while they were at the game, I got to babysit Greyson!! Chris didn't get back until later that night, so it was just me with the toddler, the 2 month old, and the puppy. It was not as hard as I thought it would be, but I am grateful that dogs can be put outside, that babies aren't mobile, and that Delilah falls asleep the minute you put her in her crib. Greyson is an ANGEL baby...seriously, I think he cried for 20 seconds over the course of 6 hours.
-
Then, on Sunday, I went to a dear friend's baby shower (again, sans camera), came home, and went out with Chris for a date night. We had a great night out...you know, just one of those times when you feel yourself falling more in love with your husband even though you thought you already loved him as much as you could.
-
But enough talk!! Time for the pictures I DID take...
-
They're all of Delilah and Greyson while I was babysitting. It was the first time the cousins met, and I have to say they were pretty cute. (And in case you're wondering why Delilah doesn't have a shirt on in the pics...well, she took off her own shirt and didn't want it put back on. It wasn't a fight I felt like having)

Chillin' in his Boppy

My 3 charges for the evening

"Here, Greyson, I think you'd like this"

"No? Okay, I'll just set it right here in case you want it later" "Maybe you'd like this pacifier instead"
Delilah started saying body parts and pointing them out on Greyson
I was telling her to "Be Gentle" which is a phrase I usually use when she's playing with dogs. So she started petting him...

She decided to give him a kiss, so here she is going in. (Look at his little expectant face!)
And she lands a big, wet one!!! This pic cracks me up!!!
Thanks for playing with us, friends and family....it was a fantastic long weekend!!

ACL 2009

The Austin City Limits Music Festival is an experience like no other. 3 days of music, beer, food, and, this year, mud. My parents generously offered to watch Delilah while Chris and I pretended to be in college again. Our house was a revolving door of guests coming in and out for the fun; we had a blast!
--
Some highlights:
Best musical act: PEARL JAM!!!!
Best musical act that you weren't expecting: a tie between K'Naan (sort of a cross between Bob Marley and Dispatch) and Dead Weather (Jack White's 2nd or 3rd side project)
Best conversation overheard on a cell phone: "Hey, Jen, it's me...I forgot to check the schedule...am I working in the morning?...Dammit"
2nd best conversation overheard on a cell phone: "Hey, sweetie...we're headed back now...can you make sure the hose is outside?"
Number of shoes in our group sacrificed to the mud gods: 6
Best post-concert moment: Watching our friend Kurt walk out the door barefoot this morning to go buy shoes at Target before the drive home to Louisiana.

Friday, Before the Rain

Saturday and Sunday, after the rain:

Kings of Leon (they sounded INCREDIBLE live)
Dave...ahhh....Dave
K'Naan (the lead singer taught the crowd the words to a song, (When I get older, I will be stronger, They'll call me freedom, Just like a waving flag), and I think all of us in the crowd sang and repeated those lines with him about 25 times. Few things better than a crowd falling in love with a band while hearing the band for the first time)
Pearl Jam. THEY WERE AMAZING. Here's Eddie with surprise guest Ben Harper (Perry Ferrell also made an appearance!)

I'm exhausted, sore, and oh so happy.
