Pure joy!!!

This snow may or may not have come off a car.  We'll just say it didn't.

Happy 1st Birthday, Noelle!

Happy Birthday, precious Ellie Bug!!!!
A year (and two days) ago, our family expanded by one and our hearts expanded by a million.  You are full of sunshine and smiles and have been this way from the very beginning.
You were supposed to have a party yesterday, but your sister got sick so we had to reschedule.  We will celebrate next week!!!

Here are the stats:
Height: 31" (92%)
Weight: 22 lbs, 3 oz (75%)
Head: 18.25 " (92%)

-Most of the time when you wake up,  you just hang out in your crib and coo and talk to yourself.  We often don't know when you wake up b/c you don't cry...it just gets to the point where we feel like you must be awake, so we go check on you, and there you are, smiling.
-The only words you say are mama and dada...my theory is that your sister talks so much you can't get a word in edgewise.
-You continue to take a few steps here and there, but still aren't really walking.  But other than that, you are SO phyisically active and adept.  You have a circuit that you love doing in our living room: climb up on the ottoman, launch yourself to the couch, climb up to the window seat, shimmy across the window seat and back down on to the couch, crawl along the couch until you triumphantly reach the end table that you sit on like it's a medal stand at the Olympics.
-You've already learned to pull a chair over to climb on if something is too high for you to reach.
-Everything goes in your mouth. Everything.
-You still coo and smile and flirt with everyone you meet.  If somebody in the room isn't looking at you, you start looking back and forth from them to me as if to say, "Hey, Mom...what's wrong with this guy?  Doesn't he know how adorable I am?" Then you proceed to stare at the person until they HAVE to acknowledge you.  And when they do, they inevitably smile and you will very proudly turn to me: "See!  I knew I would brighten their day if they just gave me a chance!"
-You give hugs.  Real hugs with your arms wrapped around our shoulders or necks.
-You have the tightest grip imaginable and you hit hard.  Really hard.
-I keep meaning to start a bedtime ritual with you, but you go to sleep with absolutely no fuss so I still haven't gotten around to it.
-Your cheeks are scrumptious.  There is no other word for them.
-You love blocks and balls and puzzles.  You are already able to do the 3-piece triangle/circle/square puzzle that we have.
-You like books, but you don't actually like to be read to.  You like to grab the book and flip the pages as many times as possible.
-You glow.  I know that's impossible, but I don't care.  You glow.

No Good

I hope when my girls are older and perhaps one day have kids of their own, they think of me as a great mom. Hopefully they will remember more good than bad. But just in case they remember too much good, this post can serve as a reality check.

Today is no good.
Today I am not a good mother.
Today my kids are not good kids.
Today my temper is short and my energy level is low.
Today I am sad and wishing I was better at this mothering thing.

But tomorrow is another day.

And it's a birthday!

First Steps!

Noelle took her first solo steps tonight!!  My parents are in town, and Chris & I were headed out for a date.  He sat down & gave Ellie Bug a hug & kiss good-bye, and I kneeled down next to him.  She turned and took one step to me!  I kissed and hugged her good-bye and she turned and walked back to him!  So exciting and I love that both of her parents, her sister, and two of her grandparents were there to see it.  After her steps, she just paused and looked around at everybody with the biggest smile...she was so proud of herself. Great job, sweet Noelle!

Central Paradise...er...Park

Last weekend brought absolutely heavenly weather and we spent as much time as we could outside.  Central Park is a few blocks away and they just opened a brand new field that had been closed off all summer to allow the new grass to root well.
These pictures speak for themselves.

Homemade Play Dough!

Delilah and I love to make homemade play dough.  It's super easy and, to be honest, I can not stand the smell of commercial Play-Doh.  So we whip up some dough, add a scent (like vanilla or peppermint extract), add some food color, and Delilah is entertained for hours.  Literally.  She can play completely by herself with play dough for over an hour at a time.  Helps when I need to cram some reading in for graduate school!

I decided to take some pics of our endeavor one day.  Here they are:
(Note:  the stove was NOT on yet when she was doing this!)

 Adding the food coloring

 Mix it up well!

Delilah decided Noelle needed to get in on the action.  I love how Noelle is looking at me like, "Umm...this doesn't seem entirely safe...you got this, right Mom?"

You'll get to join in soon, Noelle!!
